Chronic Opiate Use Associated with Lower Levels of Androgens

Chronic use of opiates has long been associated with multiple side effects, many of which are due to lower levels of androgens in this patient population.

Previous studies have shown that long-term opiate use may lead to opiate induced hypogonadism, resulting in significantly decreased testosterone levels in men. One area of chronic opiate use that needs to be looked at extensively is the correlation between opiate-induced hypogonadism and associated side effects such as osteoporosis and sexual dysfunction in male patients taking opiates. Marked testosterone deficiency is a well-established risk factor for both osteoporosis and altered sexual function, and recent information demonstrated that altered estrogen levels may play a role in these side effects as well.

    Hello,
I fell over 13 feet from the air breaking my back they had to remove two ribs and move my stomach to get to the spot in my back. Also I broke my ankle between the Fiblia and Tiblia my weight after slipping hung me upside down. I encountered a full blown staph infection while in the hospital. I told the doctor I had pus coming from one of the rods and he’s response was that’s not pus, I repeated it and he said m- f Ms. G. that’s not pus I past out and had a full blown seizure. Also before removing the external fixtion the nurse was caught stealing my med’s. Get this I never been sick in my life and even through this I never liked to take medicine. But since 2005 I have been on Methadone 10mg the 1st two years i only need one in the morning and one at night every three days. Then next serveral years up to now I have been taking two everyday which was 20mg. Now that the Ins. Inc. is not paying my bills or doctors appt. althought I have a 55% impairment rating they think they or getting away with what that did me because of what a peer review doctor said that never seen me. But it’s not over because I have filed in District court. And before they put one knife to me I have lab work that the ran that should I was a healthy female. AFTER READING ABOUT THE MANY STORIES OF DIFFERENT PEOPLE FROM THE LADY THAT WAS DETOX FROM METHADONE ON YOUR PROGRAM SHE MENTION HER FATHER PAY FOR IT. WELL SHE’S VERY ACCURATE ABOUT EVERYTHING SHE MENTION. BECAUSE EVEN WITH THE DOSE I TAKE IF I DON’T TAKE I FEEL IT IN MY BONE, I DESCRIBE MY PAIN IN THE MANNER SUCH AS A REALLY BAD TOOTH ACHE WHERE IF YOU EVER HAD ONE IT FEEL AS THOUGH YOU CAN PULL IN WITH PILXERS YOURSELF. MY LEGS FEEL LIKE RESTLESS LEGS AT NIGHT MY BONES FEEL LIKE THE PAIN IS IN THE BONE DEEP. IF I KNEW WHAT I WAS GIVEN TO GO HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL I WOULD HAVE NEVER TAKEN IT. BUT WHEN YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN SICK OR HAD AN ACCIDENT AND NEVER HAD REAL PAIN YOU WILL TAKE IT. BUT I READ EVERYTHING ON THE PROGRAM AND I WILL START SAVING EVERYTHING IF I HAVE TOO BECAUSE, IF I HAVE TO HAVE ANYTHING IN THE WORLD I WOULD START BY USING THIS PROGRAM. IF YOU CAN HELP ME IN ANYWAY I REALLY WOULD APPRECIATE IT. I AM 45 YEARS OLD AND I DON’T WISH THIS ON NOBODY.
